Education
In the coming years, one of our corporate aims is to raise the profile of environmental and waste management, and to encourage everyone to use resources more efficiently. We recognise that young people have an important role to play in changing attitudes and practices; at home, school and their future workplaces.
Where appropriate in our contract areas, we aim to develop a long-term educational programme in partnership with Local Education Authorities, Schools, Colleges and Universities, the voluntary and commercial sectors; to promote education for the next generation, so that young people in particular can help shape a new, more sustainable environment and community where they live and work.
Typical initiatives include;
- Meeting a need from schools in the local area for out of school workshops, clubs and activities based around waste minimisation and linked to the National Curriculum
- Working with other waste minimisation groups to deliver a comprehensive waste minimisation education service in the area.
- Helping schools deliver their own waste minimisation systems.
- Providing local people with waste minimisation workshops and involving volunteers in the project who will develop transferable skills.
Environment
Focsa Services embraces the objectives of BE EN ISO 14001: 2004 Standard
We place particular emphasis on Quality, Environment, Performance and Safety standards; we are dedicated to the provision of Management Systems that satisfy the needs and expectations of the International Standard and our customers.
It is our policy to continually review our processes and service output to meet the changing environment and perceived needs of our customers, and to improve our service through setting and achieving worthwhile objectives.
- Develop target levels of environmental performance for each of our contracted services. These levels of performance will be reviewed to ensure that environmental objectives, targets and impacts are maintained at a minimum and that the company’s operations comply with relevant legal requirements
- To ensure that new services are designed to the highest environmental standards
- To continually monitor and improve the performance of service provision through the development and implementation of monitoring programmes and through the regular use of independent organisations to audit our operations
- To use the best available practices and technology to minimise the emission of gaseous and particulate pollutants in our fleet of vehicles
- To use the best available practices and technology to minimise the risks to ground and surface waters
- Develop our personnel by undertaking training in technical, health and safety and environmental matters
- Encourage recovery and recycling of materials and energy wherever practicable
- Prevent pollution and conserve the environment on and around our facilities and in the provision of services where practicable
We intend to remain at the forefront of the application of Environmental Standards in the waste and environmental maintenance industry.
